Evans Meats & Seafood to Build New $8M Headquarters in Birmingham

Evans Meats & Seafood, a well-known Birmingham-based meat, seafood, and specialty foods company, is set to move into a new, state-of-the-art headquarters and distribution center near downtown Birmingham. The company recently secured a building permit for the renovation of a 116,000-square-foot facility at 2800 Messer Airport Highway, with the total contract valued at $7.55 million.
A Major Step Forward for Evans Meats
The new facility will include office space, a warehouse, food processing areas, and distribution space, supporting the company’s continued growth. Evans Meats has operated out of its current location since 1998 and has expanded several times, but has now outgrown the space. President Addam Evans expressed excitement about the move, noting that the new headquarters will be custom-designed to improve operational efficiency.
Strategic Location and Community Commitment
Located at the intersection of Fifth Avenue North and 28th Street North, the 3.6-acre property was previously home to S&S Tire. The site offers convenient access for local deliveries and interstate travel, positioning Evans Meats to better serve the Birmingham community. “We love the city and want to be part of Birmingham’s continued transformation and progress. This is a long-term plan — we’re investing in this company for the next generation,” said Evans.
Retail Specialists’ Role in the Deal
Retail Specialists played a key role in the transaction, with Matt Jaeger representing Evans Meats in the purchase of the property. The property was acquired for $2.63 million in September 2024, with Robert Crook of IronVest Partners representing the seller.
Looking Ahead
Evans Meats, founded in 1998 by J.T. “Butch” Evans Jr. and now led by his sons Addam, Chase, and Hunter, employs 135 people and plans to add 20 more by 2030. The company also operates the Son of a Butcher storefront at Pepper Place, offering specialty meats, seafood, and cheeses. The new headquarters is expected to be ready by early spring 2026, marking a significant milestone in the company’s growth and ongoing commitment to Birmingham.
