Walmart Expands with H-E-B in Texas

We’re excited to share that Bill Read was quoted in a recent Modern Retail article discussing Walmart’s latest expansion in Texas.
Walmart has opened its first new Supercenter in four years in Cypress, Texas, near Houston. This “store of the future” features a full-service fuel station, an expanded vision center, and QR codes for digital tools. Additionally, Walmart opened a new Neighborhood Market in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, in May 2024, its first in that format since 2020.
The expansion is fueled by rapid population growth in areas like Cypress, which grew from 398,000 to over 454,000 residents between 2015 and 2020, and Collin County, one of the fastest-growing counties in the U.S. from 2023-2024. Walmart plans to open more Supercenters in Dallas suburbs (Frisco, Melissa, Celina), Eagle Mountain, Utah, and Eastvale, California, between 2025 and 2026.
This move aligns with competitor H-E-B’s expansion in the same regions, as both retailers capitalize on the booming retail market driven by new home construction and population growth in Texas. Experts suggest Walmart’s new stores will act as catalysts for further retail development in these areas.
