Deal of the Year

Retail Specialists re-developed office space earns "Deal of the Year" in Birmingham utilizing tax credits.

Birmingham companies work together to rehab derelict structure into new office space

The growth of two local companies forced them to look for new office space, and always eager for a challenge, they have rehabbed a derelict Birmingham structure into a beautiful space.  On the corner of Magnolia Avenue and 22nd St. South across the street from Brother Bryan Park, the once decrepit building is now a beautiful, rustic modern office for Retail Strategies and Retail Specialists.

With a meandering open floor plan, the 17,000 sq/ft office can now hold over 50 employees with privacy offices, a large outdoor patio, dedicated conference and education rooms, a pool table, a lounge and bar area, full locker rooms, and a private parking lot.

Taking over a year from inception to the companies’ recent move in late November, the project has employed primarily local firms. Birmingham based builders Stewart Perry Construction undertook the renovation, being careful to keep as many touches of the old structure as were viable in order to maintain a continuity of history and locality.

“This is the type of project we are thrilled to see in Birmingham, where our heritage is maintained and new life is pumped into older spaces. This building used to be a fire station, then a bakery, then an antique mall. Now  Retail Strategies and Retail Specialists are expanding and their future as part of this building’s history.”

Formerly located at 120 18th Street South Retail Strategies and Retail Specialists offices had easy access to several amenities. Now located close to Five Points the new office space shows an optimism for robust growth in the area, opening potential for more retail and restaurants.

“As a retail development company, we knew we had to develop something new that could help us grow into the future maintaining our current talent and attracting new talent to the city. This office provides the foundation for our continued growth and shows our love for the city of Birmingham.”

Robert Jolly, CEO of Retail Strategies and Retail Specialists
